Moving to Indore for NEET Coaching: A Parent's Checklist

· Aayam NEET faculty

Every year, students from towns across Madhya Pradesh – Ujjain, Dewas, Khandwa, Khargone, Ratlam, Dhar and many more – move to Indore for NEET preparation. The move itself is often harder on families than the syllabus. This checklist covers what parents should sort out before and after the first month.

1. Choose the coaching centre before the room

Fix the coaching centre first, and then look for a stay near it. Visit in person, sit in a class, and ask to see named results from the last few years. A good centre will also tell you which batch suits your child: Class 11, Class 12, or a dropper batch.

  • Who teaches Biology, Physics and Chemistry, and do senior faculty take classes themselves?
  • How often are NEET-pattern tests held, and is there analysis after each one?
  • How will you, as a parent, see attendance and test marks?
  • What scholarship is available, and when is the next scholarship test?

2. Keep the daily commute short

Time spent in traffic is time lost from revision. Choose a hostel or PG within a short walk or auto ride of the centre. For a centre in Old Palasia, areas like Palasia, Geeta Bhawan, Saket, Manorama Ganj and Race Course Road keep travel to a few minutes.

3. Check the stay for study, not just comfort

  • A quiet room with a proper table, chair and light for six to eight hours of self-study.
  • Fixed meal timings and simple, home-style food.
  • Wi-Fi that is reliable enough for online tests and recorded lectures.
  • A warden or owner you can reach at any hour, and clear rules on entry and exit times.

4. Agree on a daily routine together

Most NEET students in Indore follow a pattern of four to five hours of class, a short rest, and then self-study in the evening. Write the routine down together in the first week, including sleep time. Students who sleep seven hours consistently hold up better through a year of tests than those who cut sleep.

5. Plan the budget for the full year

Add up coaching fees, hostel or PG rent, food, study material, test series and travel home. Ask the coaching centre for the lump-sum and instalment amounts in writing, and check whether a scholarship test can reduce the fee before you pay.

6. Stay in touch without adding pressure

A short call every evening helps more than long calls about marks. Use the centre's parent updates to follow test results, and save discussions about scores for the parent-teacher meeting, where faculty can tell you what to change.

7. Watch the first month closely

Homesickness, irregular meals and a falling test score in the first month are common. If they continue into the second month, talk to the faculty and the student's mentor early; small changes to routine or batch usually fix it.
